SHRIMP PHO

An homage to healthy comfort food & hospitality

Ima (pronounced ee-ma) has been serving Detroit-style noodles since 2015. Udon noodles served in deeply flavorful pork-free broths, with an abundance of fresh vegetables and an array of unique garnishes remain a customer favorite alongside a large menu of signature ramen and noodle soups. Housemade dumplings, rice bowls and a diverse selection of shareable plates, such as spicy Ahi Tuna or fried chicken bites are found alongside a curated list of beer, wine, cocktails and sake. Vegan and gluten free options are clearly labeled on the menu. With locations in Madison Heights and Midtown, Ima earned the tile of ‘Restaurant of the Year’ in 2019 by the ‘Detroit Free Press.’

CHEF RANSOM PLATING DESERT AT THE 2019 ‘RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR’ DINNER

Born in the Traverse City area and raised in East Lansing, Chef Ransom first moved to Detroit in 1999. It was then, while living with a sushi chef, that the delicacy of Japanese food kindled his passion for the culinary arts.

Leaving Detroit for Chicago in 2007, he attended Kendall College where he obtained a culinary arts degree in classic French cuisine. Following his apprenticeship, he went on to San Francisco, and then Baltimore, managing a series of prize restaurants for an international hospitality group. Returning to his original Corktown neighborhood in 2016, with the support of friends and family, he opened a casual eatery featuring Japanese inspired fare using Midwestern ingredients.

Word soon spread that "Ima" was the place to go for a steaming bowl of hot udon noodle soup.

With twenty years of coast to coast culinary experience, we are most fortunate that Chef Ransom chose to return to Detroit, finally bringing his passion for cooking home for all of us to enjoy.
